Bundle Dye Workshop - Bundle Dyeing: rituals of color and connection
Saturday December 2nd, 3-5pm
at the *new* MXED GREENS studio, Paragon Arts and Industry Building (150 Pleasant St, Easthampton MA). Studio #213, second floor
MXED GREENS' botanical dye workshops are back! With a pause during the growing season and moving (again) to a new space, it's been a number of months since we were able to host one of these workshops, and we are SO excited to resume - now in our own studio with plenty of space for each participant's creative process <3
In 2023 we've shifted the focus of our in-person botanical dye workshops to be less jam-packed with technical info drops, and more about slowing down and dropping in to the ritual practice of dyeing with whole fresh or dried plants. We'll still share about the chemistry that gets natural colors to stick to fabrics, but we'll also spend more time exploring the history and ecosystems of bioregional dye plants, allowing space for reflections and stories from workshop participants as we collectively build our relationships with these plants and the beauty of color and transformation.
What we'll cover:
- fabric options + mordants
- local plants that can be used for dyeing
- dye techniques of bundle dyeing and eco printing
- plant dye modifiers
- 1 silk bandana / scarf for you to dye
- dye plants + all supplies for bundle dyeing
- handout with information from the workshop so you can continue experimenting with natural dyes at home! (you can definitely bring your own notebook to write down info too)
Cost: $30-50 Sliding Scale
Not sure where to pay on the scale? Review our sliding scale system here.
Workshop is limited to 15 participants, with advance registration required. As with all the indoor events we host, KN95, N95, or equivalent respirator masks are required while inside the studio for all participants - we have some at the door if you need one. The studio is quite warm when the heat is on, with non-fluorescent overhead lighting, HEPA air purifiers running, and a variety of seating options. Full access notes for the Paragon Building and our studio can be found HERE.
