The 2nd class in a 5-part workshop series collaboration between MXED GREENS and Foxtrot Farm

In Sensing the Seasons, we'll explore Touch, Taste, Smell, Sight, and Hearing one by one where we immerse ourselves in the somatic + sensory experiences of the season. Each class will include learning about medicinal + edible plants, hands-on practice to make medicine/food/art with these plants, and time to connect with the land and each other. These classes are appropriate for those of you who are new to this experiences, and for those of you who have more herbal/plant experience and want to depend these relationships <3

You can attend just one class of the series, or be part of all of them!

Workshop #2: Smell

The plants are really bursting into early summer exuberance now, with a couple heat waves and some good rains. And this smell so good! The lilacs may have passed, but we relished every moment of their fragrance on the breeze. crushed ground ivy when the lawn is mowed smells like summer afternoons. we picked our first dye marigolds with that sweet pungent warm scent, and soon there will be wild roses...

In this workshop, we’ll focus on the sense of smell: the sense most closely tied with memory, and also with taste! Our human noses might not be as well honed as other mammals we love, but our sense of smell tells us so much about our environment and what we are putting into our bodies. There is plenty of medicinal & culinary information to be gained just from smelling plants!

We'll explore aromatics through making stove-top hydrosols, as well as some other preparations that will be dependent on which plants are showing up that week. Some friends we might play with include lavender, mints, tulsi basil, yarrow, and roses.

Materials: All plants + other materials will be provided. Please wear clothes and shoes you are happy to wear in a muddy garden, and any tick protection you'd like. Optional to bring: a chair or blanket to sit on, water (we will provide tea + there is a potable water spigot on site)
