The 4th class in a 5-part workshop series collaboration between MXED GREENS and Foxtrot Farm

In Sensing the Seasons, we'll explore Touch, Taste, Smell, Sight, and Hearing one by one where we immerse ourselves in the somatic + sensory experiences of the season. Each class will include learning about medicinal + edible plants, hands-on practice to make medicine/food/art with these plants, and time to connect with the land and each other. These classes are appropriate for those of you who are new to this experiences, and for those of you who have more herbal/plant experience and want to depend these relationships <3

You can attend just one class of the series, or be part of all of them!

Workshop #4: Sight

In the fourth installment of our Sensing the Seasons series, we will explore the plant world through the magic of color! This time of year is absolutely glorious to witness. The goldenrod is glowing, the purple loosestrife is sparkling in the meadow, and in the dye garden the coreopsis and cosmos are like little red & yellow suns. The indigo is also growing taller and taller, and it's the perfect time to harvest leaves for fresh dye. Part of what we love about natural dyes is the process, the play, the tactile sense of color. We'll harvest fresh dye plants at the farm, and then use them to dye silk bandanas. And of course, you know there will be some tasty herbal treats to snack on, and plant/astrology musings along the way <3

Materials: All materials will be provided including the silk bandanas for dyeing. Please bring a chair or blanket to sit on, a notebook, and a water bottle for hydration (there is a potable water spigot on site) - we will definitely be in the shade! (this is not a workshop for dyeing your own fabric, we hope you'll leave with the skills and excitement to keep experimenting on your own afterwards!)

Event led by: Devon & Tasha Greenwood, Ced Clearwater, Abby Ferla

Time: Thursday August 11th, 5-7pm*

*end time is flexible, we won't kick folks off the farm if we're still wrapping up/loving on the plants <3

Cost: $20-40 sliding scale, please review our sliding scale page on which price point is right for you  *The cost for this workshop is higher than the previous ones because the materials provided (silk bandanas + mordants) cost more.

Location: Classes will be held at Foxtrot Farm in Ashfield. We can assist to coordinate carpools from Northampton! Please get in touch with us to discuss.

Accessibility: Foxtrot Farm is accessible by car or bicycle, located at 1237 Baptist Corner Ashfield MA 01370. We will be outside for the duration of the workshop, with opportunities to sit, lie down, stand, and walk around. The gardens are located up a slight hill from the driveway, about a 100 m walk up the grassy path. Ticks may be present in the grass, we'll have a tick-key and first aid kit on hand. There is access to an indoor bathroom. Face masks are required when inside, and when close to each other outside. Children are welcome and included in your registration.
